Given the bad economic situation in Romania low-income families have large problems when it comes to ensuring funds for the many basic needs of the family. Children are perhaps the most vulnerable members of the family. It is hard to explain to a child why mom and dad cannot send you to school and provide for his basic needs of clothes, food and school supplies.
To ensure that the children from underprivileged families and children of orphans have a fair start, we would like to help them provide school supplies, so they can fully access educational opportunities.
“You Don't Know What You Have Until It's Gone” - this expression is used many times during life and today, we want to use it as we talk about one of our programs – our dental program. When you get to the point where you can’t eat because of a lack of teeth, or you’re embarrassed to smile, or you suffer days on end as you don’t have enough money even for a extraction, only then you’ll understand how much you appreciate healthy teeth.
Several of our beneficiaries are in great need of help with their teeth. Living in the state orphanage of Romania, under the conditions of limited financial subsidy, many youngsters dental care needs were neglected and with the years and the lack of on-time intervention, became severe. Not having permanent jobs, working seasonally or earning too little many are facing the impossibility to pay their own dental care expenses. Our dental assistance has enabled beneficiaries of the dental program not only to have a new look but also a much better self-esteem and health in general.
Join us in developing our dental program and helping bring back a smile to the faces of so many. Donate today!
The end of May and beginning of June were full of celebrations for high schools across the country as 12th grade students celebrated their graduation from high school. As hundreds of students, parents, teachers and friends joined together to celebrate the end of their school year, Good Samaritan had the pleasure of participating in the celebrations and continuing its tradition in awarding scholarships of 1200 lei to the top achieving students.
This year, Good Samaritan celebrated its 10th year of awarding scholarships at “Samuil Vulcan” National College (CNSV), the 5th year of scholarships at “Ioan Ciordas” Technical College (CTIC) and the 4th year of scholarships at the Pedagogical Vocational High School Nicolae Bolcas. In addition to awarding those who were finishing high school, our program extended to those with outstanding results in the 8th grade at CNSV and Nicolae Popoviciu Gymnasium School who from September will be starting high school.
Beiuș, 20 mai 2019 – For Beiusians from Good Samaritan, it’s not only scholarships, medical or housing programs for young people from orphanages that represent a desirable impact in the community but also the transfer of expertise. On Saturday 18th May 2019, Good Samaritan participated for the third time as a partner in the annual relay “Companies for the Community” held in Radauti by the association Door to Home. “We went with our team with our general accumulated experience and specifically from the relay “Running for a cause”. The desire is to provide the know-how and to inspire other organizations and volunteers to do good in their communities.” Said Nikolina Ciorna, Vice-President of Good Samaritan.
The Bucovinian partners quickly learned the work method, each year involving volunteers from companies in the region, from the RuNNuuti club and local high school students, as well as raising funds from donations. This year they attracted two ‘novel’ volunteer runners: Nistor Tatar from Radauti and Peter Costea from Houston, Texas, USA. Living and working 10,000 km away, the first being the mayor of Radauti and the second, a lawyer established in the American metropolis. The two had never seen each other until Saturday, May 18, when both of them discovered a few things in common: a passion for running, plenty of grey hair and engaging in charitable action!
Over recent weeks, we’ve taken that step to be more visible out there in the online world and get the message out there about Good Samaritan Beius.
